Clearance Envelope Explained – Theme Park Definition

The clearance envelope is the calculated three-dimensional space around a ride vehicle that must be kept entirely clear of any structures, supports, or vegetation. This ensures that even the tallest riders with their arms or legs extended cannot make contact with anything outside the vehicle. During testing, parks often use "reach envelopes" (physical frames attached to the train) to verify that no part of the environment encroaches on this safety zone.
