Ride Experience
Near-Miss Explained – Theme Park Definition
A near-miss (or head-chopper/foot-chopper) is a thematic or structural element placed very close to the ride path to create a thrill. While riders are always safely within the "clearance envelope," the speed and perspective of the ride make it appear as though they might hit an oncoming beam, tunnel wall, or another part of the track. These effects are carefully engineered to enhance the sensation of speed and danger.
