Cobra Roll Explained – Theme Park Definition
The cobra roll is one of B&M's most recognisable signature elements, consisting of two inversions in rapid succession: the track curves upward into a half-loop, rotates 180 degrees at the top passing through a brief inverted section, then mirrors the movement to exit in the same direction as entry. Viewed from the side, the track outline resembles a cobra's raised and spread hood — the element is sometimes described as two Immelmanns placed back-to-back but entering from the same side.
Cobra rolls are a defining feature of B&M inverted coasters worldwide and appear on many of their sit-down looping coasters as well. Famous cobra rolls appear on Dragon Khan at PortAventura — one of the most recognised European coasters — as well as on B&M inverted coasters across the continent. The element delivers two full inversions in a compact space with smooth, predictable G-forces, making it a reliable crowd-pleaser that works well in the middle sections of a layout.
