Dive Loop
The mirror image of an Immelmann — the track dives steeply downward through a half-loop and exits in the opposite direction.
Coaster Elements
A dive loop (also called a dive turn or reverse Immelmann) is the geometric inverse of the Immelmann: rather than pulling up into a half-loop from below, the track dives steeply downward, arcing through the bottom half of a loop before exiting pointing in the opposite direction to entry. The sensation is of a swooping downward plunge followed by a forceful pull-out at the bottom — the strong positive Gs at the exit are the opposite of the negative Gs felt at the top of an Immelmann.
Dive loops are a B&M signature element appearing on inverted coasters, sit-down loopers, and hyper coasters. They work particularly well in inversion sequences because their geometry complements the Immelmann — the two elements produce contrasting sensations and can be alternated through a layout to vary the ride experience. Together, Immelmanns and dive loops are the workhorses of B&M inversion design.
