Coasters
Hyper coaster is the industry classification for roller coasters between 200 and 299 feet (approximately 61–91 m) in height. B&M and Intamin use slightly different terminology — B&M calls their designs Hyper Coasters while Intamin uses the term Mega Coaster — but the height range is consistent. Both manufacturers' hyper-class rides share the same design philosophy: long, flowing layouts with large camelback airtime hills at sustained high speed, typically without any inversions.
Shambhala at PortAventura in Spain is Europe's tallest hyper coaster at 76 m, often ranked among the continent's best coasters overall. Other celebrated European hypers include Goliath at Walibi Holland, Silver Star at Europa-Park, and Kondaa at Walibi Belgium (Mack Rides' take on the format). Globally, Mako at SeaWorld Orlando and Diamondback at Kings Island are considered benchmarks. The combination of sheer height, sustained speed, and repeated powerful airtime moments makes hyper coasters consistently the most popular ride type among dedicated enthusiasts.
