Downtime
An unplanned temporary closure of a ride, typically caused by a technical fault or safety check.
Park Operations
Downtime refers to an unscheduled, temporary closure of a ride or attraction — distinct from a planned refurbishment. Causes include mechanical malfunctions, sensor errors, safety checks triggered by guest incidents, adverse weather (particularly lightning), or animals entering the ride zone. Most downtime events are resolved within minutes to a couple of hours, though complex mechanical failures can extend closures.
From a planning perspective, downtime is one of the least predictable variables in a theme park day. High-capacity rides with complex systems — such as large roller coasters or elaborate dark rides — tend to experience downtime more frequently than simpler attractions. park.fan displays the current operational status of every tracked attraction in real time, distinguishing between Operating, Down, Closed, and Refurbishment states, so you can adjust your route the moment a ride goes offline.
