Opening Day

The official date on which a new park, themed land, or attraction opens to the public for the first time.

Park Operations

Opening day is the officially announced date on which a new park, expansion, or attraction opens to the general public. Opening days are major events in the theme park community, typically drawing large media coverage, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, character appearances, and a festive atmosphere. They also attract the most dedicated enthusiasts, who often queue from the early hours to be among the first to experience the new attraction.

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, opening day is rarely the optimal time for a first visit if minimising wait times is your goal. The combination of media attention, novelty factor, and enthusiast tourism typically produces some of the longest opening-week queues an attraction will ever see. Soft openings occasionally precede the official opening day and can provide a much lower-crowd alternative for guests who happen to be in the park at the right moment.
