Top Spin Explained – Theme Park Definition

Also known as: Huss Top Spin

The Top Spin is a flat ride model manufactured by Huss Rides. A gondola holding typically 40 riders is mounted on a pivoting frame; the gondola can be rotated continuously in any direction as the frame swings, creating an unpredictable combination of swinging and spinning forces. The ride can be programmed from gentle rocking to relentless full rotations, making it adaptable to different intensity levels.

Top Spins were ubiquitous in theme parks and travelling fairs from the 1990s through the 2010s and remain a recognisable sight in many parks worldwide. Despite the swinging motion, the Top Spin is not a pendulum ride — the gondola is not suspended from a long arm but rather clamped between two rotating side frames.
