Observation Tower Explained – Theme Park Definition

An observation tower carries a glazed or open gondola up a central column, usually rotating as it climbs so every seat gets the full panorama, holds at the top, and lowers again. Mechanically it is a close cousin of the drop tower and the two are often confused — the difference is entirely one of intent: an observation tower is built to be looked out of, a drop tower to be fallen from.

In a park it earns its keep as a landmark first and a ride second, giving the skyline a fixed point visible from the car park. The Euro-Tower at Europa-Park has done exactly that since 1979.
