Attractions
A drop tower (also called a free-fall tower or drop ride) is an attraction in which riders are lifted in a gondola or individual seats arranged around a central tower structure, then released to plummet rapidly toward the ground. The drop may be near-true free-fall (approaching weightlessness), progressively braked, or in some models an ejector-style launch element fires riders upward first before the drop. A deceleration phase near the bottom brings the gondola to a smooth stop. Variants include rotating drop towers, multi-directional models, and hybrids that combine a drop with a launch sequence. Drop towers offer intense thrills with a very compact footprint, making them popular worldwide. Well-known examples include the Tower of Terror installations at Disney parks and numerous models from manufacturers such as Intamin, Mondial, and S&S Worldwide.
