Wing Coaster
A coaster type with seats extending on either side of the track, so riders have nothing above, below, or beside them — maximising the sensation of flight.
Coasters
A wing coaster (also called a wing rider) places two seats on each side of the track, extending outward on pivoting arms so that riders have nothing above, below, or beside them — just open air in every direction. This design maximises the sense of flight and creates uniquely close near-miss interactions with trackside structures, rocks, and theming elements. On a wing coaster, the outside seats of a zero-G roll produce an extraordinarily open, exposed sensation.
B&M is the primary manufacturer of wing coasters worldwide. Well-known European examples include Flug der Dämonen at Europa-Park — one of Europe's most highly rated coasters in enthusiast polls — The Swarm at Thorpe Park, and X Flight at Six Flags Great America. Wing coasters have become one of B&M's most successful product lines because the open seating design appeals to guests who find traditional over-the-shoulder harnesses intimidating, while the near-miss effects provide spectacle for onlookers as well as riders.
