Zero-G Roll
A 360-degree roll following a parabolic arc where riders experience near-weightlessness while inverted at the apex.
Coaster Elements
The zero-G roll is an inversion element shaped so the train follows a parabolic arc through the rotation, similar in concept to a heartline roll but at higher speed and with greater vertical displacement. At the peak of the roll, riders experience momentary negative G-forces while upside down — the unique sensation of floating while inverted. This combination of inversion and airtime in a single element is what makes the zero-G roll one of the most celebrated elements in modern coaster design.
Zero-G rolls are strongly associated with B&M wing coasters and hyper coasters, where the open seating positions send riders dramatically sweeping through the sky with no track above, below, or beside them. On a wing coaster, the outside seats of a zero-G roll produce an extraordinarily open, exposed sensation unlike anything found on a conventional coaster. Shambhala at PortAventura and Fury 325 at Carowinds feature particularly celebrated zero-G rolls.
