Norwegian Loop Explained – Theme Park Definition

The Norwegian loop (sometimes called a reverse loop) has the opposite geometry to a standard vertical loop: rather than entering at the bottom and exiting at the same height after a full circle, the train enters from an elevated position, dives down through the circular loop path, and exits again at the top. The strong positive G-forces at the bottom of the circle are still present — the loop geometry hasn't changed — but the entry and exit sensations are entirely different, creating a dive-and-recover feeling rather than the classic loop pull-out.

Norwegian loops are relatively uncommon in the global coaster inventory, appearing primarily on certain Vekoma designs and a small number of custom installations. They occupy an interesting niche: the element is technically a full inversion but feels quite different from a standard loop because of the altered entry approach. Their rarity makes them a notable point of interest for enthusiasts seeking out unusual coaster elements.
