Rocky Mountain Construction
An Idaho-based manufacturer that invented the hybrid coaster concept, converting ageing wooden coasters into steel I-box track rides with unprecedented airtime and inversions.
Coasters
Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) is an American roller coaster manufacturer and maintenance company based in Hayden, Idaho, best known for inventing the I-box steel track system that can be fitted onto wooden coaster support structures. This conversion technology allowed parks to transform rough, ageing wooden coasters into world-class hybrid rides featuring intense airtime, multiple inversions, beyond-vertical drops, and dramatic overbanked turns — all design features impossible on traditional wood track.
RMC conversions quickly became some of the most acclaimed rides in the world: Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point, Wicked Cyclone at Six Flags New England, and Wildfire at Kolmården in Sweden all received immediate enthusiast acclaim after their openings. New-build RMC hybrids — built from scratch rather than converted from an existing coaster — include Untamed at Walibi Holland, which opened in 2019 and is consistently ranked as one of Europe's best coasters. RMC fundamentally changed the calculus for parks with ageing wooden coasters, offering a clear upgrade path without the loss of beloved heritage structures.
