Single-Rail Coaster Explained – Theme Park Definition

A single-rail coaster uses a single narrow box-section rail instead of the usual two parallel rails, with trains in which riders sit one behind another straddling the track. The thin rail allows extremely tight, contorted layouts and a uniquely exposed feeling. Rocky Mountain Construction pioneered the modern version with its "Raptor" model (such as RailBlazer at California's Great America), and Vekoma and Intamin have since developed their own single-rail designs, making it one of the most distinctive coaster types of the last decade.
