Schwarzkopf
A legendary German manufacturer whose classic looping coasters from the 1970s and 80s remain beloved across European parks for their smooth, intense ride experience.
Coasters
Anton Schwarzkopf GmbH & Co. KG was a German roller coaster manufacturer based in Münsterhausen, Bavaria — the same town Gerstlauer later occupied. Founded by Anton Schwarzkopf in 1954, the company was instrumental in bringing modern looping coasters to Europe and the world. The Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain (1976) was the world's first modern looping coaster. Schwarzkopf's Looping Star, Thriller/Wildcat, and transportable Looping Coaster models toured and were installed at parks across Europe and beyond.
Schwarzzkopf coasters are revered for their extraordinary smoothness — a product of Schwarzkopf's precise engineering standards — and for the elegant efficiency of their layouts, which deliver intense airtime and inversion sensations in relatively compact, graceful designs. The company went bankrupt in 1983, but many installations remained operational decades later and are treasured as irreplaceable classics. Maintenance is now handled by specialist firms or Gerstlauer, which acquired some of the original tooling. Enthusiasts regularly campaign to preserve remaining Schwarzkopf installations whenever parks consider replacement.
