Stengel Dive

An overbanked airtime hill tilted beyond 90 degrees, combining lateral disorientation with negative G-forces — a Mack Rides signature element named after engineer Werner Stengel.

Coaster Elements

The Stengel Dive is an airtime element where the track banks beyond 90 degrees (past vertical) so that riders hang sideways or slightly overhead while simultaneously experiencing negative G-forces from the hill profile. This unique combination of lateral disorientation and airtime produces a sensation unlike any standard hill or inversion — riders float out of their seats while the world tips sideways beneath them.

The element is named after Werner Stengel, the German engineer responsible for the design geometry of some of history's most important coasters. Stengel Dives are a defining signature of Mack Rides' hyper coaster portfolio: Blue Fire Megacoaster at Europa-Park was the first coaster to feature one. Subsequent Mack hypers including Ride to Happiness at Plopsaland de Panne and Kondaa at Walibi Belgium include multiple examples in their layouts, and both rides are consistently regarded as among Europe's finest coasters by the enthusiast community.
