Twisted Horseshoe Roll Explained – Theme Park Definition

A twisted horseshoe roll takes the horseshoe — a tight 180-degree turnaround that sends the train back the way it came — and threads an inversion into both legs. The train rolls over on the way into the turn, travels through the horseshoe, and rolls again on the way out. Two inversions and a full change of direction happen in one continuous, unusually drawn-out manoeuvre.

Rocky Mountain Construction introduced it on Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City, the first wooden coaster ever to carry a double barrel roll, and has since built it into Steel Vengeance, Zadra, Iron Gwazi and Untamed. Riders spend most of the element sideways or upside down with very little G-force, which is why it produces so much hangtime.
